Cop Nicknamed 'Smiley' Isn't Smiling After Being Hit By A Car On The Highway Trying To Stop A Car

Posted • March 10, 2025: East Ridge, TN — New body camera video shows the moment East Ridge Police Officer Alan Resendiz was hit by a suspect in a high speed chase last July. He was laying spike strips to stop that suspect when the vehicle swerved into him. Officer Resendiz, nicknamed 'Smiley' by his coworkers, sustained seven broken ribs, a broken pelvis, and other injuries. Officer Resendiz has been on “light duty” since January 14th, and will be back to full duty on March 20th, once he gets the green light from his doctor.
