No gun was found at the scene where two Des Moines police officers shot and killed a man wanted on felony warrants.

In a news release Thursday, police said officers heard a loud noise from the closet in which Brandon Allen Mitchell, 36, allegedly was hiding and, perceiving they were being shot at, started firing their weapons. Mitchell later died at a hospital.

The incident happened at about 2:45 p.m. Jan. 24 when someone reported to police they saw Mitchell at a residence in the 1300 block of East Tiffin Avenue. He was wanted on felony probation violation warrants related to domestic abuse and child endangerment.
