Crews battled multiple brush fires across New York on March 8th, with blazes spreading through Center Moriches, East Moriches, Eastport, and Westhampton on Long Island.

The first fire ignited in Center Moriches before sparking additional fires, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine said. While fires in Center Moriches, East Moriches, and Eastport have been extinguished, the Westhampton fire remains 50 per cent contained.

On the same day, a fire erupted in Brooklyn, coinciding with the Long Island fires and prompting Governor Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency. The cause of the fires is not yet known.
