This is perhaps not a security camera for the casual user, not the camera for someone who wants no brainer, instant access, instant video. No, this is a heavy duty professional grade camera designed for experienced users with a good knowledge of networking protocols. That rules me out.

In the plain unbranded box, I received the camera itself, Allen Key, Mounting Kit, Cable Router, wall mounting kit, User Guide, and a 12v UK Power Adapter. The power adapter may be an optional extra as it is not needed for PoE operation. Build quality is first rate, the camera and mount are made from metal and are clearly made to last with a professional grade feel to them.

Looking at the camera, which is IP67 rated water resistant, on the front we see the 8MP 2.8mm fixed focus lens together with the microphone and white and infrared LED lights. On the rear is the grommet protected access bay containing the micro SD card slot (maximum capacity 512GB) and reset button. A twin pigtail connector emerges from the rear with an RJ45 Ethernet port ( IEEE 802.3af, Class 3, max 9,5w) and power input (12v, 0,66a, max 8w). As I said, this all seems of professional grade quality to me.

There are three basic ways to connect to the camera:
LAN Connection - over your home network using Power over Ethernet (no external power needed) and a connected computer or smartphone.
With a home security PoE NVR system to a computer, HDMI monitor or smartphone
With a non PoE NVR security system to a computer or smartphone.

The first thing to do is to connect the camera to the power adapter and ethernet port of your router or if your router supports Power Over Ethernet (PoE) then just use the RJ45 Ethernet port. From the VIKYLIN website download the SADP or iVMS software and use this to configure the camera as you wish. Depending on the connection method you have used you can then use your computer or smartphone (using the Hik-Connect or Guarding Vision apps) to view the live feed, receive alerts and further configure the camera..

Video quality is first rate with a genuine non upscaled H265 3840x2160@15ips video with noise reduction audio. The camera can detect and discriminate between humans and vehicles and has optional smart night vision which switches automatically between infrared and colour video and back upon motion detection and release.

The camera and supports a wide range of NVR video security systems including Synology, Blue Iris and Ispy through the Open Network Video Interface protocol.

It is worth noting the camera supports the latest H265 video encoding which gives higher quality with a smaller file size. The older but more widely used H264 compression codec is also supported.

This is a high quality, high specced camera capable of giving fantastic results. Setting it up can be a bit tricky but once that is done you will have a long lasting pro grade camera capable of yielding the highest quality video. Not bad for quite a bit less than $100.
