Knife wielding woman is fatally wounded in LAPD shooting after officers respond to possible kidnapping at motel

Pacoima, CA - A woman was wounded in an officer-involved shooting while police were responding to a possible kidnapping at an Arleta motel, authorities said Saturday.

Linda Becerra Moran reported she was being forced to stay at the motel located in the 10000 block of San Fernando, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers responded to the scene at about 9:40 a.m. Friday, and met with her inside a room there.

"During their investigation, Moran became agitated, armed herself with a knife, and held it to her neck," LAPD said in a statement. "The officers exited the motel room and deployed to the threshold of the doorway."

Police allege she did not drop the knife after being "repeatedly" told by officers to do so.

"Moran did not comply and advanced toward the officers, while still holding the knife, when an Officer Involved Shooting occurred," the statement from LAPD reads. "Moran was struck by gunfire, dropped the knife, and fell on the bed."

She was taken into custody and officers rendered aid before she was taken by ambulance to a hospital to treat her injuries.

According to police, a knife was recovered from the scene and booked as evidence.

No one else was wounded. Police have not released any other information about the shooting.
