The Whispering Giant - Bristol Britannia

Hello everyone! :D

One of those great tragedies of the British aviation industry, the Bristol Type 175 Britannia had all the momentum to be a success due to it being lined up as one of the first long-range transatlantic turboprop airliners, building on the reputation of the earlier Vickers Viscount, which had made significant inroads into the highly insular American market.

Sadly, the Britannia's development would be mired in delays and controversy, with the crash of the second prototype and a highly publicised spat between Bristol and BOAC, leading to a souring of confidence in the airliner by prospective customers, while by the time the machine finally entered service, the Boeing 707 jet was only a year way from its own launch, and would leave the Britannia in the dust in terms of performance and commercial success.
