Can Varroa Mites be the cause of weak hives?

This is a stream of conscience talk about Varroa Mites and what might be happening with the queens.

In order for this to be true one thing that would need to be is that some of the weak queens would need to have viruses that get passed from the varroa.
Now not saying this is 100% proof but there is a video from scientist Alison McAfee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb3au_gQIrY it is around 19:30 That says that here co-worker discovered that markers of heat stress in weak queens turn out to be the same as markers found in queens that have had infections. This would be a necessary finding for my hypothesis to have merit.
