Wait, you might be wondering, aren't these both different animals, and don't they live on different continents? So, how can they mate together?
Many instances are known where this combination mates to create what is known as a liger. If you want to see how male tigers and female lions mate, you must watch this.

Successful mating between a male tiger and a female lion is rare. However, when that happens successfully, the offspring is known as a Tigon.

You will find that such mating can only successfully happen in captivity as it does not occur in the wild.

That is because these animals are known to attack the tiger when he approaches the female lion. The male tiger will take his time to move towards a female lion. Of course, her pride will be around somewhere.

The female lion is reluctant and will not let the male tiger come close. When she does, they might end up mating, but it will anger the pride. Once the mating is done, the pride will attack the male tiger brutally.

The lions go after the male tiger because they are protective of the members of their pride and such cross-breeding is something we don't see much in the wild. There are rare instances where a male tiger and the female lion would mate successfully, but they happen once in a blue moon.

Most of the time, the lions will attack the tiger and might be successful in killing him. As the female lion and the rest of the pride hunts the tiger, he will run as fast as possible to get away from them. After all, survival is the most important thing in the jungle.

The male tiger will go towards his streak, who will instantly know that the lions are following him. Of course, the tiger will also attack back to save his life and to cause some damage, so the lions stop attacking him. The streak and the pride will get into the fight of their lives.

Both of these groups will attack one another because it is a matter of survival and ego for the animals. They are protective of their group and will not let any harm come to anyone. That is why male tigers and female lions do not mate.
Almost all of the time, such mating will be unsuccessful and result in a gruesome fight between the two. So, who wins this fight in the end? Is it the lions, or is it the tigers?

In the wild, anything can happen, and anyone can win. It is all a matter of skill and intensity for the streak and the pack. Only the fittest survive because it is not easy living in the open with no protection, which is why members have to protect each other no matter what happens.

Of course, we don’t see such mating happening in the wild because these animals live on different continents. If a Tigon mating takes place, it mostly happens when they are in captivity or through insemination to create this hybrid. The more common mating we see in the wild is between a male lion and a female tiger.
The offspring of such mating is known as a Liger. These breeds are becoming highly popular, and you will see them often in the wild. A Liger is considered to be an exotic luxury hybrid breed around the world.
