Woman Causes Mid-Air Disturbance on Southwest Airlines Flight, Forcing Delay

A Southwest Airlines flight from Houston to Phoenix was delayed on Monday, March 3, 2025, after a female passenger stripped naked and caused a significant disturbance, prompting the aircraft to return to the gate before takeoff.

The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 2:55 p.m. CST, was preparing for taxi when the woman suddenly removed her clothing and began screaming. Witnesses reported that she walked up and down the aisle, alarming fellow passengers, including children.

The situation escalated as the woman banged on the cockpit doors, demanding entry and insisting on exiting the plane. She also struck parts of the aircraft and claimed to be bipolar. The disturbance lasted approximately 25 minutes before the flight crew decided to return to the gate.

Upon arrival, Houston police officers were waiting. The woman was covered with a blanket and escorted off the plane before being transported to the NeuroPsychiatric Center at Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital for a medical evaluation. Authorities did not disclose her identity, and no charges were filed.

Following a delay of around 90 minutes, the flight eventually departed for Phoenix. Southwest Airlines later apologized for the disruption and provided affected passengers with a $50 travel voucher.

Several passengers described the incident as distressing, with some questioning why no legal action was taken given the severity of the disturbance.
