ST PAUL, Minn. — A bill seeking to eliminate a person's "duty to retreat" before using reasonable force when defending themselves or others failed to get enough votes in the Minnesota House of Representatives on Thursday.
Minnesota's current "duty to retreat" policy requires a person to try to escape a situation in which they feel threatened before resorting to using reasonable force in self-defense.
