Colin Clarke, Director of Research at The Soufan Group, told Al Jazeera that Trump’s interference with the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas could backfire. “My concern is that the US inserting itself into these negotiations and effectively usurping Israel’s position, with Trump tipping the scales, will ultimately be counterproductive,” Clarke said. “He was frustrated with the slow pace of the negotiations, but these talks have been ongoing intermittently for almost 15 months.”
