Dems Stage Singing Protest to Disrupt Green’s Censure—A Violation of Decorum

Al Green (D-TX) for his disruption during President Donald Trump’s congressional address. Professor Turley. emphasized that what Green did was “beyond the pale” and that, in a different era, a bipartisan unanimous vote of censure would have been a given. He recalled his own time as a congressional page at the age of 15, a time when Congress was a revered institution and such outbursts would have been unthinkable.

“There were certain things you just didn’t do,” he said. “What we saw today was rage overcoming reason and lunacy overcoming civility. I don’t know how we got to this point, but it was outrageous—not just what Green did, but the response of his party. As Speaker Johnson tried to restore order, Democrats made a mockery of the chamber.”

As Green was led to the well of the House for the formal censure, his Democratic colleagues surrounded him, singing and shouting in protest, further delaying the chamber’s ability to conduct business. This flagrant disregard for decorum marked yet another escalation in the Democratic Party’s refusal to accept congressional rules and order.
