Why Megalodon (Definitely) Went Extinct
67
The Megalodon, a giant prehistoric shark, went extinct around 3.6 million years ago. While the exact cause remains debated, it’s believed that climate change played a major role. As Earth cooled, ocean temperatures dropped, affecting marine ecosystems and prey availability. With fewer large marine mammals to hunt, Megalodon struggled to survive. Combined with other factors like competition with smaller, more adaptable sharks, the Megalodon eventually vanished from the oceans.
