Two dead in Mississippi as severe weather strikes South

Severe storms swept through the South on Tuesday, causing two weather-related deaths in Mississippi and widespread power outages affecting over 296,000 customers.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves offered condolences but provided no details on the fatalities.

High winds disrupted Mardi Gras celebrations in Louisiana, with some parades canceled or shortened.

Two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, with no reported injuries, NBC News has reported.

As the system moves east, it is expected to bring severe weather from Florida to Pennsylvania and heavy snow in the Midwest.
