Floods in Indonesia’s capital displace thousands

Severe floods in Jakarta and surrounding areas have forced thousands to evacuate, submerging over 1,000 homes and roads.

Governor Pramono Anung raised the alert level and ordered water pumps and weather modification efforts to mitigate the crisis.

A hospital in Bekasi was also flooded, leading to patient evacuations and power outages.

Rescuers used boats to assist trapped residents, while the government set up shelters and provided aid.

Heavy rains are expected to continue until March 11, with officials hoping weather modification can reduce the impact, Reuters has reported.

Bekasi is experiencing its worst flooding since 2020.
