Week 6 Tutorial: A Big Bloody Book of Ritual and Rules (Leviticus 1—22)

Week 6 Readings of our 2025 Chronological Bible-in-a-Year Reading Challenge have us opening up the third book of the Torah, Leviticus.

In many ways, Leviticus serves as the 'instruction manual' for worship in the newly-constructed tabernacle, given to the Israelites, and in particular, the Levitical Priests, through Moses at Mt Sinai.

While admitting Leviticus is a notoriously difficult book to read, in this tutorial Chad Mansbridge encourages us to lean in to our readings this week as we endeavour to 'discover Him' in this Book. Firstly, to discover the 'Historical Intended Meaning' (H.I.M.) of the text—essentially an instruction manual for the Levites on how worship in Ancient Israel was to be performed in the Tabernacle—and then, secondly, to discover and seek to see Him: to see Jesus in the types and shadows of the (no longer practiced) Levitical system.

While Leviticus may not be written to you, it most certainly is written for you; there are truths within this 'big bloody book' which can bless and benefit you, so long as you handle it properly.

Chad's suggested approach to this week's readings includes the following five sittings:
- Israelite Offerings (Lev. 1–7)
- Ordination of the Priests (Lev. 8–10)
- Various Purification Rites (Lev. 11–15)
- The Day of Atonement and Holy Living (Lev. 16–19)
- Punishments for Sin and Prescriptions for Priests (Lev. 20–22)
