DOJ To Step In On Election Fraud Conviction Of Tina Peters Who ‘Exposed’ Voting Machines

The Department of Justice plans to review conviction of former Clerk Tina Peters Over Exposing Voting Machines

Peters is a former Mesa County clerk, who was sentenced to 9 years in prison after being accused of breaching elections systems during a 2021 security update in an attempt to expose election fraud.

The DOJ has now filed a 'statement of interest' in Tina Peter's case saying in part,

"Reasonable concerns have been raised about various aspects of Ms. Peters’ case. ... the exceptionally lengthy sentence imposed relative to the conduct at issue, the 1st Amendment implications of the trial court’s Oct 2024 assertions relating to Ms. Peters, & whether Colorado’s denial of bail pending appeal was arbitrary or unreasonable under the 8th and 14th Amendments Parallel to these... DOJ is reviewing cases across the nation for abuses of the criminal justice process."

District Judge Matthew Barrett - who was appointed by Democrat Governor Jared Polis - gave 69 year old Peters a prison sentence, instead of probation, saying she caused “immeasurable damage” to local elections and trust in the electoral process.

Peters stood by her allegations through out the trial, insisting that election fraud had taken place - something the judge called a 'lack of remorse'

Twice during Peter's sentencing hearing, the Judge called Peters a “charlatan” who peddled snake oil.
