"Natural Born Bugie" is the debut single released in 1969 by English rock band Humble Pie, who were one of the first British supergroups. It was written as a mid tempo rock song by Steve Marriott, for Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate label and became the band's first single release. The original UK B-side was "Wrist Job" and it was replaced with "I'll Go Alone" for a later release in United States. The three guitarists sang a verse each.
The song reached No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart during 1969.[2] The song's refrain refers to a "Natural Born Woman".
"30 Days in the Hole" is a song by English rock band Humble Pie. Released in late 1972, it was composed by the band's guitarist/singer Steve Marriott for the group's fifth album Smokin' (1972). The song received minor airplay at the time and failed to chart. However, it gained a following on album oriented rock (AOR) and classic rock radio formats, and consequently remains one of Humble Pie's best-known songs.
The B-side on its US release was "Sweet Peace and Time", while everywhere else the B-side featured "C'mon Everybody" and "Road Runner".
30 Days In The Hole, a Steve Marriott composition, bemoans being arrested for possession of small quantities of illegal drugs, including cocaine; Durban poison, a potent strain of marijuana; and Red Lebanese and Black Nepalese, two types of hashish. "New Castle Brown" is often mistaken as a reference to Newcastle Brown Ale but actually refers to heroin also known as "Brown" or "Smack".
Guitarist Clem Clempson has said 30 Days In The Hole is one of the tracks for which he would most like to be remembered. But the predominant group personality shown through by the song is Marriott's; so much so that, years later, Clempson was asked about efforts to reform the group without Marriott and said "It's a waste of time."
Marriott regularly played the song in the 1980s with his band Packet Of Three (with Jim Leverton and Jerry Shirley). The song was included in a 1984 concert at Dingwalls released as a live album two years later and a 1985 televised concert at the Camden Palace posthumously released on DVD and CD.
In the years since, "30 Days" has been recorded by several artists, most notably Gov't Mule, Mr. Big, Ace Frehley, The Black Crowes, Kick Axe, and The Dead Daisies, and is a live staple of Canadian rock band The Trews.
30 Days In The Hole was featured on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto V, on the in-game radio station Los Santos Rock Radio.
"Black Coffee" is a song written by Tina Turner. It was originally recorded by Ike & Tina Turner for their 1972 album Feel Good on United Artists Records. English rock band Humble Pie released a popular rendition of the song in 1973.
Humble Pie covered "Black Coffee" for their 1973 album Eat It on A&M Records. Their version features the Blackberries singing backing vocals. Steve Marriott adjusted some of the lyrics. In the original version, Tina Turner sings, "My skin is brown but my mind is black." Marriott sings, "My skin is white but my soul is black." When questioned about the lyrics by journalist James Johnson of NME, Marriott said: "I just sang it 'cos I loved the song and it was an interpretation of somebody else's lyrics. People should have known that I've been into black music for years anyway."
Humble Pie promoted Black Coffee on the British TV program The Old Grey Whistle Test in March 1973. The single didn't make an impression on the charts, but it became one of Humble Pie's best known songs, and is considered one of Marriott's best vocal performances.
In 1989, Marriott and Clem Clempson recorded Black Coffee as a jingle for Nescafé coffee's new product – Blend 37. They won a Gold Medal Award for the top Commercial 1989.
