On October 2023, Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Marvin Morales was found unresponsive in a restroom at the Central Division office. Fellow deputies administered Narcan, an opioid reversal drug, and transported him to a hospital. An internal investigation revealed that Morales had confiscated narcotics, later identified as fentanyl, during a field stop that day. A similar package was discovered in his uniform pocket after the incident. Further findings indicated that Morales had previously used a confiscated glass pipe to smoke narcotics at his home. He was terminated in February 2024 and decertified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, rendering him ineligible to serve as a peace officer in the state.
