FBI New York Field Office chief James Dennehy was forced to retire Monday, confirming he was given no reason for the decision.

Appointed in 2024, Dennehy had clashed with the Trump administration over FBI independence, particularly regarding the Jan. 6 investigations.

His exit follows the recent appointments of FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, raising concerns of political influence in the bureau.

Dennehy also played a key role in the probe into NYC Mayor Eric Adams and was mentioned in discussions about withheld Jeffrey Epstein documents, Fox News has reported.

His departure is the latest in a series of high-profile FBI shake-ups.
