Do CNN’s poll numbers lie?President Trump’s meeting with Ukraine President Zelensky in the Oval Office last week was indeed an example of a master and an amateur. The Ukraine president was not only outclassed (he showed up in his sweat suit again) but completely inadequate for the level of policy discuss he got himself into in front of the press. Zelensky embarrassed himself, his staff, and his country, potentially upending all American support for his war effort, at least in the near term, simply because he refuses to sign the mineral rights deal he as already agreed to three times. He was supposed to sign them after that meeting but chose to try and re-litigate it in front the f the media instead, derailing the effort. The questions arose quickly about the predicate of this meeting and if one party ambushed the other. Having supported and spoken about both President Trump and Vice President Vance closely on the issue of ending the war in Ukraine, it certainly doesn’t appear they did anything beyond what a reasonable person would expect. Zelensky on the other hand, had many pre-meetings, including with powerful US Senators from both sides of the aisle who strongly oppose ending the war in Ukraine on the terms President Trump is working hard to make happen, the only terms proposed and taken seriously by any party in three years. These pre-meeting discussions did include preparation for the Oval Office meeting, according to reporting, so we have to conclude Zelensky was getting advice from them and likely other Americans who strongly oppose the peace strategy America is now pursuing. Unfortunately, President Trump kicked the Ukrainians out of the White House and said they were not ready to properly discuss peace, to come back when they were. The Europeans, especially the UK and France are attempting to insert themselves into the process but fortunately it looks like they are also demanding Zelensky get on board with the Presidents proposal.
