(How Worthless Things Rob us of Blessings)

Text: Psalms 31:6
Objective: that the brethren avoid vanities, worthless things and indulgences
Intro:
Define – vanity, lying, trust, rob, worth/less, blessings

Why should we avoid Vanities?
1) It Provokes Anger – annoying, irritating - Deuteronomy 32:21, 1Kings 16:13
a) Instead of blessings when God/others are pleased with us
i) Later you will be jealous of others that have the blessings you could have had
ii) Even mercy can be withheld - Jonah 2:8
2) It is Sin in and of itself - 1Kings 16:13
a) Don’t think that this is just a joke or small matter
3) It Makes us Far from the Lord – because it is far from Him and his matters
a) Jeremiah 2:5 – gone far
4) It is So Foolish - Jeremiah 10:8
a) Associated with idols – how foolish is that?
5) It is and will be so Embarrassing - Jeremiah 16:19
a) People all over will recognize its errors and people that are have succumb into it
6) It leads to even more Vanities - Acts 14:15
a) Believing in idols, believing in vain, in vanities, worship of men
7) It will Destroy the very Idea of Trust - Psalms 31:6
Message/conclusion:
Let us avoid vanities, worthless things and indulgences that the full blessings of the Lord may come upon us
