The Book of Matthew - Part 25

The lesson on March 2, 2025 was part 25 of “The Book of Matthew” study. We briefly recapped from the previous lesson then looked at the phrase of “This Generation” which is used in Matthew 11 and 12. When Jesus uses this phrase, he is referring to that poor condition of their spiritual understanding, which is a common usage when you look at everywhere this phrase is used (Gen. 7:1; Ps. 12:7; 71:18; 95:10; Matt. 11:16; 12:41-42; 23:36; 24:34; Mk. 8:12; 13:30; Lk. 7:31; 11:30-32, 50-51; 17:25; 21:32). We looked at the first four occurrences and learned that the passages in Psalms were appearing in three of the five divisions in Psalms (Psalms 1-41 is the Genesis Book, Psalms 42-72 represents the Exodus Book, Psalms 73-89 represents the Leviticus Book, Psalms 90-106 represents the Numbers Book, and Psalms 107-150 represents the Deuteronomy Book.) We also looked a the passages used to claim Jesus was a war monger (Matt. 10:34; Luke 2:14; 12-51). In the end, we were shown a horizontal bar with three time points indicating events in history. Wayne explained that as we see the events, we start to understand but there is no surprise to God because he is outside of time. We ended looking at the reference to Elijah in Matthew 11:14 and said the Elijah coming will be looked at in the next lesson.

The scripture reading was from Matthew 11:1-6 KJV “1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. 2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, 3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? 4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”
