This video presents the top 15 U.S. companies by annual revenue from 1955 to 2024, based on the Fortune 500 list. Annual revenues are inflation adjusted to 2024 US$.

Fortune ranks the largest U.S. companies by total revenue each year. However, before 1995, retailers, banks, and service companies were not included in the main Fortune 500 ranking—they were listed separately. Certain large private companies are excluded from Fortune 500 because they do not publicly report revenue.

🔍 Why Retailers Appear After 1995:
If you notice Walmart, Sears, or Kmart missing before 1995, that’s because Fortune didn’t include them in the main list at the time. In 1995, Fortune changed its methodology to rank all industries together, which is why retailers appear suddenly despite already being large companies.

📊 Key Notes:
Rankings are based on annual revenue, not profit or market value.
Mergers and name changes are reflected where applicable (e.g., ExxonMobil, ChevronTexaco).
If a company disappears, it may have merged, declined, or rebranded over time.
