Negombo Day 1 1:23
Touching down at Colombo Airport, we make our way to the coastal city of Negombo. Our first taste of Sri Lanka is an incredible Negombo-style crab and prawn curry, rich in bold flavors. Afterward, we explore the shores of Negombo Beach before wrapping up the day with dinner at the legendary Lords, a cricket-themed restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere.

The morning starts with a peaceful walk along Negombo Beach, where we watch local fishermen navigate the waters in their traditional Oruwa boats. Next, we cruise through the historic Dutch Canal, a relic of colonial times. Checking into the stylish Regal Réseau hotel, we take in breathtaking ocean views from our balcony before unwinding in the stunning infinity pool. The day ends with a mesmerizing sunset over the Indian Ocean.

Leaving Negombo, we venture inland to visit the famous Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, home to rescued Asian elephants. We watch these gentle giants play in the scenic Maha Oya River before feeding them back at the orphanage. Witnessing the herd walk through the streets of Pinnawala is an unforgettable sight. Along the way, we stop at a roadside stall to sample authentic Sri Lankan street food.

Arriving in the rural village of Dambulla, just outside Sigiriya, we hop into a tuk-tuk bound for a local farming community. Here, we learn to cook traditional Sri Lankan bread and curry from scratch using time-honored techniques. After savoring our homemade feast, we glide across a serene lake in a traditional canoe, donning handcrafted water lily hats. The adventure ends with a charming bullock cart ride through the countryside.
