Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932)

A pre-Code horror film loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe’s classic short story. Directed by Robert Florey, the film stars Bela Lugosi as Dr. Mirakle, a deranged scientist who kidnaps young women in Paris and injects them with ape blood in an attempt to create a new species. When his experiments lead to murder, a medical student (Leon Ames) begins investigating, uncovering Mirakle’s twisted plans.
