This is because the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh had chosen to lay claim to land outside the boundaries of Canaan. A request that the LORD granted.
GEN 15:18: On that day, the LORD formed a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt until the great river, the Euphrates river.”
1SAM 3:20, And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the LORD.
The LORD GOD sets the boundaries of the land to be given to Israel. It is given to them as their inheritance. However, Israel had to take control of the land of Canaan by conquest. In many cases they would have to drive out the inhabitants to take possession.
This description of the land, the boundaries was to show that the Israelites did not need to conquer the world, they were, at least for now, to live as the people of GOD. That is they were to be content with what the LORD provided. That was sort of a new concept in the world at the time: Most pagan Kings wanted more. Look at Alexander the great.
GOD does want you to enjoy life to the fullest, BUT HE wants us to do it with HIM, and according to HIS Will and HIS timing, HIS plan.Just remember that we are to be content with our lot in life, and, walking with the LORD GOD, the Creator of the Heavens and the earth, is our true blessing. HE is the reason we are to serve contently.
Being complacent means your satisfied with your own achievements and your plans, so you get complacent, you get lazy. Lazy people are never really happy, they are not content because they are not truly content, thus, they are complacent.
When the LORD commanded to cast lots it was understood that the result was guided by the hand of GOD. When man did it on their own it was not from GOD. This happened when the remaining the eleven apostles cast lots to determine who would replace Judas. That was not commanded by the LORD.
The New Testament nowhere instructs Christians to use a method similar to casting lots. The Word, the Spirit, and prayer is to be sufficient for discerning GOD’s will today not casting lots, rolling dice, or flipping a coin. Now that we have the indwelling Holy Spirit to guide us, there is no reason to be casting lots to make decisions. The KOD has corrupted this to a form of false worship. Everything from astrology to numerology.
It was to be divided by lot, that is not by some sort of chance, but rather guided by GOD’s hand and the general principle that the larger tribes received a larger inheritance. No tribe could really argue with that or complain about it. I know they were a complaining bunch. The tribes did fight amongst themselves over land, particularly after the death of King Solomon when the kingdom split into Israel (the north) and Judah (the south).
The woman with the bleeding Issue…she broke a boundary. Yet ultimately it was Yeshua Who broke that boundary. The unclean were not to touch the clean.
