(7) POLYGAMY AND MONOGAMY: A man is permitted to marry multiple wives (up to at least 7 wives) only if the current government permits it. However, monogamy is preferable to polygamy in most situations and a man is forbidden to marry multiple wives if the current government bans polygamy. A man is not permitted to marry biological sisters simultaneously. A king is not permitted to abuse his authority to marry hundreds of wives, which is a common practice called multiplying wives. A religious leader may only be married to one wife (he is permitted to remarry if she dies, but it is preferable if he remains unmarried if he doesn’t desire to remarry or he is over 60 years old). In general, young singles should get married and young widows/widowers should get remarried. However if someone has no desire for marriage or is widowed after 60 years old, it is better if they stay unmarried.
