America’s much-loved 44 caliber handgun cartridges started in 1870 when Smith and Wesson took an order for a large number of revolvers from Russia! The Russians specified a new cartridge, which ushered in the .429” bore diameter we still use today. From there grew the 44 special, and then the 44 magnum. Let's take a look at all 3 different 44 revolver cartridges, and put them head-to-head.
