Summary - I’m sure you’ve heard the saying ‘Integrity Matters’. When I was growing up this was usually followed by a lesson of watching what a person does. A person’s actions will tell you everything. As much as that lesson is very true and should be remembered, in the information age, we need to pay double attention to what a person says. In every aspect of our lives, words matter. More now than ever, a person’s word reflects their character. Are there moments where you will need to read between the lines to understand what is said, absolutely. But then, there are times where you just need to believe what someone tells you. No matter how horrible it may be.

But there is also a consequence of breaking trust with people, in not fulfilling or honoring the words that you say. We live in a time where we want to control consequences to avoid accountability. We can see this in society, government, church, family, and even in our spiritual relationship with God and Christ. Honoring commitments is a stabilizing force in relationships, business, and even in faith. Honoring God’s name is crucially important as well. God does not desire for His name to be associated with broken promises, unfulfilled commitments, and disgraceful dishonor. His very nature is to honor and uphold His word. His name and the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, matters. Upholding the name of God and Christ through your word and deed brings lasting respect, credibility, and trust. We should all be mindful of the teachings of Jesus where ‘let your Yes be Yes, and your No be No.’ Simple, effective, truthful, and this will keep you in a proper righteous relationship with God, Christ, and man because everyone will know where you stand.
