According to the report, $2.8 Trillion in improper payments were made by the federal government since 2003. More than $100 Billion was spent annually on IT – not upgrading to the latest technology but fixing old rundown systems and more than $10 billion was spent in 2023 alone on maintaining government offices where only 6% of the workforce showed up to the office.
Chairman Rep. James Comer saying they will do their part to highlight and eliminate waste, fraud and abuse, while working alongside DOGE.
SOT: “Despite GAO's recommendations to protect taxpayers and their comprehensive reports released each year, bloated federal programs continue to squander taxpayer funds and fail to meet basic objectives. Americans are tired of the federal government failing its report card and demand action. GAO's work provides the Trump Administration, including DOGE, a roadmap to take on the runaway federal bureaucracy," Comer said ahead of the hearing.

During the hearing Marjorie Taylor Greene took a moment to showcase the support President Donald Trump has of the American people when it comes to DOGE and its mission of cutting waste, fraud and abuse
