This week we consider Sarah in our study of Women in the Bible. Her name was first, Sarai. It was later changed to Sarah. She was the wife of Abram, whose name was later changed to Abraham.
Both Sarah and Abraham experienced faith in God that we might think of as small or suspect. They made several mistakes that come from a lack of patience and faith, but their faith grew, and God was merciful and protective of their lives and His plan for them.
Abram fathered Ishmael by Sarai's Egyptian handmaid, Hagar. Ishmael is the son of the flesh in the story.
Abraham fathered Isaac by Sarah, and he is noted at the son of promise in the story.
The application for us today is that we as Christ followers are also considered children of promise; contrasted with unbelievers as children of the flesh.
The story show's some of the ways that God brings about His redemptive plan for mankind, and it gives us hope that we, too, can be used of God even if our faith is small.
