Directed by Raoul Walsh, notable for being one of the first films shot in widescreen. Starring a young John Wayne in his first leading role, the film follows frontiersman Breck Coleman as he guides a wagon train of settlers on a treacherous journey across the American West.
Featuring stunning cinematography and grand scale, The Big Trail helped set the stage for future Westerns and showcased Wayne’s early screen presence, even though it was initially a box office disappointment.
