Gifts of the Spirit and the Primacy of Love in Christ's Ministry

In the Epistle, St. Paul addresses the Corinthians about the diversity of spiritual gifts within the body of Christ. He emphasizes that while there are various roles—apostles, prophets, teachers, and others—all are integral to the Church's function. However, he underscores that possessing these gifts without love renders them meaningless. Love, he asserts, is patient, kind, and enduring; it is the greatest virtue that outlasts all others.

In the Gospel, Jesus commissions His twelve disciples, granting them authority over unclean spirits and the power to heal diseases. He instructs them to minister specifically to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel," preaching that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Their mission is to heal the sick, cleanse lepers, raise the dead, and cast out demons, offering freely what they have received.

Together, these passages highlight that while spiritual gifts and miraculous powers are vital for ministry, they must be exercised with love. Love is the foundation that gives purpose and direction to the use of these gifts in serving others and advancing God's Kingdom.
