02.23.25 "What Do Miracles Have to Do with the Price of Eggs?"
Lots of talk in the world about inflation, the declining purchasing power of the dollar (here in the USA), and the high cost of eggs ... or maybe even, "Eggs? I can't find any eggs!" Of course the one thing this all has in common is scarcity or lack. ACIM addresses this directly with one of the Miracle principles in the beginning of the book. "42. Wholeness is the perceptual content of miracles. It thus corrects or atones for the faulty perception of lack anywhere." (Tx.1.61)
I like eggs. I eat a fair amount of them. I cook them in a variety of ways. I love to cook eggs. As a child it was the very first thing I learned to cook by myself. I learned how to fry an egg. My mother would let me do that by myself so ... I could always make myself something hot and delicious to eat because we always had eggs. (Less work for mom!)
My usual source of eggs is CostCo, a large box store. Last week when I went shopping there, CostCo had no eggs. "What?!" How could that be? They always had racks and racks of eggs. "Sigh." I knew it was more likely because of hoarding than any real shortage of eggs. Just like at the beginning of the pandemic when people hoarded toilet paper, and CostCo would be out of toilet paper. Hoarding is when you buy more than you need, more than you usually buy, because you fear it won't be available later. It's fear based, defensive buying. So the fear creates the scarcity it's afraid will happen – a classic vicious cycle. "It is essential to realize that all defenses do what they would defend." (Tx.17.33)
Let's look at the first quotation again. We need to correct or atone for ALL perceptions of lack by remembering wholeness. All perceptions of lack need to be healed. All perceptions of lack are faulty. That means they are broken, or they don't work. They thus need to be fixed. They need to be healed. Here are synonyms for “faulty," and remember that all of these apply to any perceptions of lack. Maybe it’s the lack of eggs in the store, or maybe it's the lack of money you think of when you buy the expensive eggs when you are able to find some, "faulty = malfunctioning, broken, damaged, defective, not working, not functioning, in disrepair, out of order, out of commission, inoperative, unsound, unusable, useless." Any and all perceptions of lack are faulty. Any and all perceptions of lack need healing.
I eventually found eggs at a local supermarket. I bought what I needed (18 of them) and didn't think twice about the price. Instead of thinking about the scarcity around eggs, I am now remembering the young boy so pleased with himself that he could fry an egg on the stove, put salt and pepper on it, and eat it with delight. And I still can. Isn't life grand?
