California (1947)

Directed by John Farrow and starring Ray Milland and Barbara Stanwyck. Set during the 19th-century California Gold Rush, the film follows ex-soldier Johnathan Trumbo (Milland) as he reluctantly gets caught up in the state's push for statehood. Along the way, he encounters feisty and ambitious frontier woman Lily Bishop (Stanwyck), who has her own plans for success.
