Hyper Light Breaker | An Extraction Shooter Styled RPG

Hello Im Skill Incarnate and Welcome to My Games Review Series.
My reviews cover indie games that i have bought, had gifted to me and have been provided by developers for review.
In this episode I check out a new roguelike Extraction Game called Hyper Light Breaker. This game was developed by Heart Machine, who also developed Hyper Light Drifer, the first game in the series, and is published by Arc Games, who also released popular indie games including the Torchlight and Remnant series. Hyper Light Breaker takes place before the events of Hyper Light Drifter, and is set in the Overgrowth, a once verdant place which has been assaulted by the Abyss King and his generals known as the Crowns. The player controls a member of the Breakers, the guardians of the Overgrowth, as they battle the Abyss King and his minions. The game takes place in procedurally generated Overgrowth, as they explore for weapons and resources, battle the minions of the Abyss King and face off against each of the four Crowns. Success will allow you to challenge the Abyss King in a final duel, but failure will result in the Overgrowth being reset, with the player required to once again fight their way to the Abyss King.

The game features an extraction shooter like experience, with players required to master the games challenging combat system, carefully timing attacks, dodges, blocks and parries, as well as deploying your ranges weapons and special abilities to even the playing field. Each successful extraction will amass more resources which you can use to purchase weapons and items to assist your current run, as well as permanent upgrades that you can carry accross to future attempts. The boss battles against the Crowns are a highlight of the game, requiring high grade equipment and serious dedication to conquer.

Unfortunately im hesitant to recommend the game in its current state. There has been a massive series of serious bugs plaguing the game including performance issues, clipping problems, broken quests and a gamebreaking bug that prevented me from accessing the game. Furthermore there were some poor design decisions, with critical abilities such as first aid being locked behind upgrades. The developer has acknowledged the current state of the game, and are actively working toward a more stable state so my current recommendation is to wait for further updates.
