Yoav Gallant, the previous defense minister of Israel, acknowledged that on October 7, 2023, Israeli troops were ordered to invoke the Hannibal Directive, resulting in a substantial number of Israeli casualties. Given that Israeli forces are said to have killed "hundreds," his statement calls into doubt the rationale of the ensuing Gaza offensive.
