The Pentagon To Cut 5,400 Jobs This Week

The Pentagon is the latest agency to announce its cleaning house, announcing
that it will fire 5,400 civilian employees this week -- and potentially tens of thousands more.

The mass terminations are part of President Donald Trump's plan to cut spending and the size of the federal government.

This is just the first round of which will equal 5% to 8% of the workforce and will be followed up with a hiring freeze.

Thousands of employees at other federal agencies have been terminated in recent weeks with tens of thousands more deciding to take President Donald Trump up on his 'generous' buyout offer.
In a statement a spokesperson for the Department of Defense said,

"We expect approximately 5,400 probationary workers will be released as part of this initial effort, after which we will implement a hiring freeze while we conduct a further analysis of our personnel needs.”
"As the secretary made clear, it is simply not in the public interest to retain individuals whose contributions are not mission critical."
