St. Louis County, Missouri --- According to police, on January 13, 2025, at 9:52 a.m., Country Club Hills police officers responded to a call for service for a motor vehicle crash in the area of West Florissant Avenue and Lucas and Hunt Road. While responding, officers were advised the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was firing a gun at vehicle and into the air.

Two St. Louis County police officers arrived on scene to assist and observed a male firing a handgun with an extended magazine walking westbound on West Florissant Avenue toward Ferguson Avenue. The male fired a shot at one of the police officers and the police officers then fired at the male. The male then ran west on West Florissant Avenue to Ferguson Avenue. A St. Louis County police vehicle then struck the male at the intersection of West Florissant Avenue and Ferguson Avenue.

Police said officers on scene began performing CPR and rendering aid to the male later identified as Durell Dorn, 37 years of age. Dorn was transported to an area hospital and succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Detectives did locate a 9mm semi-automatic pistol attributed to Dorn on the scene. The investigation confirms Mr Dorn's weapon was fired at least 10 times nine fired casings recovered at the scene were ballistically matched to the weapon attributed to Mr Dorne one fired casing has not been recovered in total 16 shots were fired by law enforcement officers.

The St. Louis County police officers involved in this incident are 30 years old with 5 years of law enforcement experience and 30 years old with 8 years of law enforcement experience. One officer sustained a minor injury in the incident.
