Fidelity to God's Will
Today we immerse ourselves in the sacred texts, the lives of the saints, and the spiritual lessons the Church offers us as we continue in this time of preparation for Lent.
Epistle: James 1:19-27
"Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
St. James exhorts us to put our faith into action, reminding us that it is not enough to hear and know God’s commandments we must live them out in charity, humility, and obedience. This passage urges us to purify our intentions and practice true religion, which consists in love of God and neighbor.
Gospel: Mark 10:17-27
"Go, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in Heaven: and come, follow Me."
In today’s Gospel, Our Lord calls the rich young man to radical discipleship, but the man goes away sorrowful because he is too attached to his possessions. Christ reminds us that it is difficult for the rich to enter the Kingdom of Heaven not because wealth is evil, but because it easily becomes an idol that distracts us from God.
