An irate cyclist is going viral for flipping out at a young driver — screaming “I have more rights than you!” — just to be the one fined when he called the cops.
Videographer Pierce Kempton, 22, filmed lycra-clad 73-year-old biker Gary Peacock breathlessly raging at him while accusing him of driving too close in Park City, Utah, late last month.
“You’re not going anywhere!” Peacock shouts, yanking open the young driver’s Subaru door when he says he just wants to “go skate.”
“You’re not leaving!” the cyclist shouts, dropping an f-bomb as the younger man turns the camera to show how “bro’s got his hands on me” as he’s held by the shoulder.
Kempton remains calm throughout most of the more than 6-minute video, asking: “What are you doing? Why are you so cranky?”
“I’m riding a bike, I have more rights than you!” Peacock yells at one point in the clip.
Peacock then dials 911 to report a “very dangerous teenager who almost hit me in a car” — calling the 22-year-old a “jerk,” a “liar” and an “a–hole.”
“I want you to come and give this guy a ticket,” he says, lecturing the dispatcher on Utah laws. “Send a policeman for this guy right now,” he says, bizarrely accusing the calm-sounding driver of still “being aggressive.”
Peacock’s wish came true, with cops arriving — and the older man cockily predicting that the still-calm-sounding driver was “going to jail.”
Instead, the cyclist was issued a $160 ticket for disorderly conduct for his unhinged display.
Kempton was initially cited for passing the cyclist too closely, KPCW reported.
But the $130 ticket — $30 less than the one given to the cyclist who called the cops on him — was ultimately dismissed, according to an email the videographer posted on TikTok.
Peacock paid his fine — and regretted boiling over.
“I lost my temper,” the cyclist told KCPW. “I didn’t go there with the intention of hitting them or doing anything but just telling him, ‘Hey, you came way too close to me. And I’m upset about it. I’m angry about it.’ And then his reaction just set me off.”
He admitted he snapped, blaming it on a number of close calls he’s had with other drivers.
“This guy, unfortunately, was the subject of my wrath, because of all these other incidents,” he said.
Kempton, meanwhile, said the cyclist “could have settled that just by telling me with his words.”
“I don’t think he needed to be aggressive, and I don’t think he needed to get the law involved,” he told the outlet.
Under Utah law, drivers are prohibited from endangering “vulnerable” road users, which includes both cyclists and skateboarders.
Vehicles are required to give those users a 3-foot berth when passing.
