Local Jewish leaders react to Pittsburgh shooting
It’s been a sad weekend for the Jewish community in Green Bay. Many are mourning the lives who were taken Saturday from a synagogue in Pittsburgh. "It’s a terrible thing to have somebody coming in with that much hatred in the middle of something like that," said Jonathan Costa. Costa, the Congressional President for Cnessess Temple, says people in northeast Wisconsin were shocked and sad when they heard the news. He says Saturday’s incident in Pittsburgh forces the congregation to pay close attention the building's security. "It happened there, we hope it never happens here,” Costa said. “But at the same time, we feel we are prepared, but we will always update our preparedness." Costa says safety is a big priority, which is why during services they lock the doors, so people can pray peacefully. "Not everybody is innocent,” Costa said. “People wander around and check for open doors, so it’s better to have a locked door." Costa hopes people can reflect on the tragic events in Pittsburgh and help prevent a something from happening in the future. "If people can do some soul searching and take some time to understand what’s going on and what happened, we can prevent things like this from happening again," Costa said.
