Microsoft Claims Quantum Computing Breakthrough by Creating New State of Matter

Microsoft unveiled its first quantum computing chip, Majorana 1, after nearly two decades of research.

The chip uses eight topological qubits made from indium arsenide and aluminum.

To create this quantum chip, Microsoft developed a new state of matter, referred to as a topological state, requiring precise atom-by-atom material alignment.

Unlike other companies, Microsoft is manufacturing the chip itself and plans to scale up to a million qubits.

While the chip won’t be available for public use yet, it marks a significant step toward future quantum advancements, CNBC has reported.

The company aims to integrate quantum computing into its AI business, which could revolutionize drug discovery and AI model training.
