ROBBING FOOD FROM OUR MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN! WHERE IS PETE HEGSETH?

TAKING FOOD OUT OF OUR SOLDIERS’ MOUTHS
Over $151M deducted from soldier’s pay for food disappeared.

When you’re a soldier in the US Army, your salary will have deductions. In addition to the usual tax deductions stolen by the IRS, there is a certain amount deducted from a soldier’s food allowance. This deduction has always looked a little sketchy at first and even second glance.

Here we go: of the hundreds of millions of dollars, taken from our men and women in green, less than half the money goes to our soldiers’ stomachs. There is a question that must be answered, “Where did it go and why did it go there?”

An investigation from Military.com disclosed that over half of the $225 million, swiped from our enlisted men’s and women’s wallets, was not in place and now still isn’t. This is part of a program called the Basic Allowance for Subsistence program [BAS]. Of the $225M raised, only $74 million was actually spent on food. Where’s the $151M that never made it?

A source says, “The money is just returned to the big pool of army funds and has been used someplace else.” The money is collected in what amounts to a tax on troops — taken from their BAS payment of $460 per month and automatically deducted from paychecks of service members who live in barracks. The program is intended to help enlisted men and women pay for food.

The shame is that we don’t pay our enlisted men and women enough money to support their families. I have talked to some soldiers who live on food stamps to feed a family with only 1 or 2 small children. A family in the military is not advisable until you at least clear the rank of E-5 [Sergeant].

How can we expect them to fight for us when we won’t even feed them? How can we invent new ways to strip their paychecks, whatever fascinates the government? When I first enlisted in the Marine Corps, only 1/3 of our paycheck was taxable, the Base Exchange Store was a real bargain, and base housing was available for a song.

By the time I made Staff Sergeant [E-6], the government was taxing all of my income and there were new deductions appearing almost every quarter. I used to be able to buy boots and military clothing, articles, etc. at a real savings from Small Stores. After all, I am a Marine.

Now it’s not that way anymore. In fact, I found that shops off the base were selling what I needed for less. The BX [Base Exchange Store] on base had been privatized and the company running it couldn’t even compete with K-mart.

Back to today: Records from the 11 largest military bases show that in 2024, $151 million of the $225 million taken from soldiers was not spent on food, but simply disappeared. This was confirmed by the investigation by Military.com.
More than 50% of the money from soldier BAS pay has been redirected from food services. It is unknown what the redirected money is being spent on. And nobody’s talking. Where is it when you need transparency?

This is happening in the Army and the other branches of the armed forces. When asked, even the folks in payroll have no idea where the money is going. As for the top brass, mum is the word. This is an area where Mr. Hegseth needs to jump in and smack the administration around. The Pentagon is to blame because “The buck stops there.”
