The Democrat Governor of Arizona, Katie Hobbs has vetoed a bill that would have resulted in same day election results and faster counting for the state that has taken almost two weeks to report its election results.
Republican Senate President Warren Petersen called the veto a huge mistake, saying the majority of the state’s county recorders supported the bill.
The plan was to move up the mail ballot drop-off deadline by four days, to provide more time to count ballots verify signatures.
Peterson said the bill is similar to the system in Florida, a state that had 99% of their ballots counted within a few hours of polls closing.
In a post on X, Arizona House Speaker Steve Montenegro accused Hobbs and Democrat legislators of blocking reforms aimed at ensuring timely and transparent election results.
Questions over election integrity continue to swirl, with many pointing to the extended time to count ballots as one of the ways election fraud can be achieved.
