The rains caused floods and landslides in cities, rivers overflowing their banks, roads being blocked, houses being flooded and other destruction.
A father, mother and their two daughters (4 years and 6 months) died after being buried in a landslide caused by heavy rains in Portoviejo. Most of their house was buried underground.
