Square Enix in TROUBLE! Earning Report Comes Up Short Despite Big Wins

Square Enix announced steep a steep drop off in operating income in a recent investor call, despite an otherwise successful quarter. After announcing they would be doing away with western influences and focusing on their core brands, a bit of a step back was to be expected. Games like Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake and Final Fantasy 14 continue to deliver for Square Enix, but too much messing around with their cash cow has caused long term concern with FF14's latest expansion, Dawntrail, and its focus on a community despised character; Wuk Lamat. Concurrent player counts have been trending downward for the first time in a long time post-patch and threaten to drop below one million.

The future looks bright for Square Enix, but in order to arrive on the other side, they need to fix a few more issues before it really is clear sailing.
