In Part VIII of The World of An Altar of Indignities we're taking a look at one of the major events of ancient Athens that provides the backdrop to our dramatic and romantic comedy: the Panathenaea, or the Panathenaic Games.

This was the greatest event on the Athenian calendar. It was not just a festival to honour the Goddess Athena, but it was also a time when the people of Athens, and other Greeks, came together for an enormous display of civic pride, military and artistic might.
