The Dancing Plague of 1518 was a strange and mysterious phenomenon that occurred in Strasbourg (which was part of the Holy Roman Empire at the time, now in modern-day France). In July 1518, a number of people, primarily women, began dancing uncontrollably in the streets. This bizarre outbreak of "dancing mania" persisted for days and even weeks, and some dancers reportedly danced to their deaths, either from exhaustion or stroke.
